Advent Day 14: prayer for peace

Loving God,

I pray for peace.

I confess that I, myself, am often responsible for the lack of peace in the world.

Forgive me.

When I would rather weapons be used instead of words, forgive me.

When I would rather my words function as weapons, forgive me.

When I would rather point out differences and otherness than share in a common humanity, forgive me.

When I am apathetic to a sister or brother who is clearly pushed to the brink by life’s challenges, forgive me.

When I glory in the triumphs of conquest and domination, forgive me.

God, my very nature screams for violence.

May I, instead, hold instruments as tools instead of weapons.

May my words heal and comfort, not offend or agitate.

May I seek your smile in the face of the “other”.

May I reach out in love to those who may force as their only resort.

May I cease my contributions to a society built on foundations of bloodshed.

Exchange my nature for that of the coming Prince of Peace.
